The gymnema plant is acrid, anodyne, liver tonic, emetic, diuretic. Gymnema contains Gymnemic acid, Quercitol, Lupeol, Beta-Amyrin and Stigmasterol, which have glucose lowering properties. Research and Studies on Gymnema and its effects on diabetes
The action of Gymnema leaves on pancreas was first documented in the late 1920s.In recently published research from 2004, scholars at Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington D.C. showed Gymnema to be supportive of normal body weight and normal blood lipid levels. The herb, whose name means "Sugar Destroyer" in Hindi, has been used since the sixth century BC to support normal blood sugar levels in the body.
